Baked Jalapeño Poppers Recipe – Simple Recipe Ever

Ingredients

  • 10 Jalapeños
  • 9oz / 250g Cream Cheese
  • 5oz / 150g Streaky Bacon, finely diced (or bacon of choice)
  • 1 cup / 100g Cheddar Cheese, finely grated
  • 1 Green/Spring Onion, finely diced
  • 4 tbsp Dry Breadcrumbs (can use Panko!)
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan, finely grated
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • Salt & Black Pepper, to taste
  • Olive Oil, as needed
  • Sour Cream, to serve

Instructions

Mix 4 tablespoons breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons parmesan, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, and a dash of salt and pepper (to taste) in a medium-sized bowl. Set aside to one side.

When the bacon is nice and crispy, saute 5 oz/150g of diced bacon in a pan over medium heat, adding oil as required. Once cold enough to handle, mix with 1 cup (100g) grated cheddar cheese, sliced green or spring onions, and 9 oz (250g) cream cheese in a another bowl. Set aside to one side.

Scoop up your jalapeños and cut them in half lengthwise, creating two boat-shaped pieces. Using a teaspoon, remove the seeds and start filling with the cream cheese mixture.

You want to fill them to just about level height; depending on the size of the jalapeño, about 1 tablespoon per “boat” should work well. If you are worried about spilling spice, wear gloves.

Turn each boat over and carefully press it into the breadcrumb mixture to ensure the crumbs stick and make a crispy coating.
Arrange them evenly on a baking tray, then bake at 200C/390F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they bubble and heat through.

After that, transfer to the grill and broil for about 5 minutes, or until the top is crispy and golden (see notes). After letting it cool for a few minutes, dig in.

Tips for the best Baked Jalapeño Poppers

Initially, you should bake them until they are barely done, usually until they begin to bubble. Watching a careless jalapeño popper makes me sad.

A jalapeño that is ever so slightly firm is actually beneficial since it maintains its shape well. To ensure that the jalapeños cook evenly, try to use ones that are comparable in size.

For the same reason, attempt to cut symmetrically so that both sides have the same depth. Although delicious on their own, these taste much better after a dip.

For myself, I typically use a straightforward sour cream to offset the heat. But they also work extremely well.
